Heat Still Eyeing Antetokounmpo Move, Confirms Pat Riley

The Miami Heat’s front office are apparently already looking ahead to the off-season. Despite needing to focus on reaching the NBA Playoffs, the Heat are reportedly planning another trade package to try and acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks.

Riley Keen to Land ‘Whale’

ESPN’s Shams Charania reports that Pat Riley and the Heat front office have not given up on their pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo. Once the Heat’s season concludes, the front office will supposedly be determined to find a trade package that works, aiming to create a star-studded roster by the 2026-27 season.

According to Charania, rival executives believe Riley is determined to land a major star. “The Heat, Pat Riley, it’s clear around the NBA when I talk to rival executives: Pat Riley wants his whale, his shark, his tiger. They’ll be back in the Giannis hunt and then whatever star they can find that becomes available to see can we get that No.1 guy,” Charania stated.

Potential Roster Changes

The pursuit of Antetokounmpo could lead to significant changes in the Heat’s roster. It’s suggested that Norman Powell, Bam Adebayo, and Tyler Herro could be playing their final NBA Playoffs stint with the team. The Bucks are likely to demand an All-Star-calibre player, along with a lucrative deal that includes draft picks.

If the Heat were to successfully acquire Antetokounmpo, it would immediately make them title contenders. The Bucks, meanwhile, would likely begin a rebuild, acquiring picks through offseason trades.

The Heat’s focus, for the moment, should be on securing their place in the NBA Playoffs with a win against the Charlotte Hornets.
