Nuggets Face Thunder After Oklahoma Clinch Top Spot

The Denver Nuggets and Oklahoma City Thunder are set to face off. The Thunder have already clinched the best record in the league and homecourt advantage throughout the postseason. The Nuggets, with a 52-28 record, host the Thunder, who stand at 64-16, at Ball Arena on Friday.

Nuggets Aim to Clinch Three-Seed

The Denver Nuggets are currently enjoying a 10-game winning streak. This surge puts them within touching distance of clinching the three-seed in the Western Conference. They’ve been closely matched with the Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets and Minnesota Timberwolves for that spot.

A key factor in the Nuggets’ improved form is the return of players such as Aaron Gordon and Cameron Johnson. Johnson, in particular, has found his rhythm, averaging 15.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.1 steals while shooting 56 percent over the last 15 fixtures. This is similar to what Michael Porter Jr. was providing.

Thunder Secure Homecourt Advantage

The Oklahoma City Thunder have secured the best record in the league. Their 128-110 road win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday secured them homecourt advantage throughout the postseason. This win also marked OKC’s seventh straight win and their 19-1 record across their last 20 outings.

Jalen Williams recently returned to action two weeks ago. After securing homecourt advantage, the team will have a week off before their first playoff game.

MVP Candidates on Display

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is averaging 31.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, 6.6 assists and 1.4 steals per game this year. Nikola Jokić has recorded a triple-double in 11 of his last 16 outings, averaging 27.8 points, 12.9 rebounds, 10.9 assists and 1.4 steals per game. Victor Wembanyama is also in the discussion.

The Thunder have won all three games against the Nuggets this season. All three games were decided by 10 points or fewer.
