Raków Częstochowa and GKS Katowice faced off for a place in the STS Polish Cup final, with the winner set to meet Górnik Zabrze. Both teams are also closely matched in the PKO Ekstraklasa. The match promised to be a very interesting spectacle.
GKS Katowice Takes the Lead
Raków began by patiently exchanging passes in the centre of the pitch. However, this did not yield any immediate chances. Marcin Wasielewski attempted to find Mateusz Wdowiak, but Wdowiak lost the aerial duel.
GKS Katowice then took the lead. Erik Jirka, assisted by Bartosz Nowak, surprised Oliwier Zych with a shot near the post.
Ivi Lopez took a shot from a set piece, forcing Dawid Kudla to make a save. It was a great shot met by an even better save.
Goalkeepers in Action
Karol Struski was fouled around 35 metres from goal, with Sebastian Milewski committing the foul.
Oskar Repka tried a shot from distance, with the ball going just wide of the post. Oliwier Zych then made a superb save from Sebastian Milewski’s half-volley.
Marcin Wasielewski crossed from the left, but Oliwier Zych intervened and caught the ball.
