The Green Brigade’s attendance at Celtic B’s game against Albion Rovers has paid the Cliftonhill side’s wages for a month, manager Sandy Clark revealed.
Green Brigade Support at Lowland League Match
With the ultras group still locked out of Parkhead, and away matches, with their ban looking set to continue for the foreseeable future, they went to support the B team in the Lowland League on Saturday. They were in fine voice as they watched their young team go down 3-2 despite leading twice in the game with Robert Rachwal scoring a double.
Theo McCormick scored a stoppage time winner for the home side to disappoint the visiting ultras.
Financial Impact on Albion Rovers
Rovers certainly benefited from their presence with their attendance and subsequent gate receipts going up.
Manager Clark admitted the cash brought in was enough to pay their players for a month.
“There was a great atmosphere at the game because we got numbers [through the gate],” he said.
“Celtic brought a great fanbase with them and I was saying to Jonny Hayes [the Celtic B boss] after the game that was probably a month’s wages for our players, which is brilliant.
“I know it sounds a little bit flippant, but it is so important to us.
“Our fans turned up and got behind their team and they were ecstatic when we got the goals to win the game.”
